The Hijab

Our column today will not discuss the religious and linguistic aspect of the hijab’s meaning, but we will focus on the behavior of the majority of those who wear the hijab. We noticed lately many girls wearing the hijab and this is a victory for Islam, but before wearing the hijab, every Muslim girl must realize the principles and laws of what she wears.

The hijab is not a cover to be placed on the woman’s head – rather it is a behavior and principle that comes out from internal convictions out of a religious ideology of the woman who intends to wear it. We will base our words on examples and summarized points that show some negative examples that harm the hijab, and also harm the Muslim woman:

* The hijab of the tongue (one’s control over what he says) comes ahead of the hijab on the head. I wonder about some women who claim they know religion, its principles and wear the hijab, and we find their discussions and meetings are all about backbiting and gossiping about the society. So where are you from what Allah Almighty says: “And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it.”

* The hijab of the heart is before the hijab of the head. Some women are plagued with the ego disease and conspire against others, and always have bad assumptions towards others, and their joy on earth is preparing bad situations for others, and despite this they wear the hijab and claim they are a pulpit of Islam. Do not you remember what Allah Almighty says in his dear book: “O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule (another) people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule (other) women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by (offensive) nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after (one’s) faith. And whoever does not repent – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” “O you who have believed, avoid much (negative) assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other.”

* Tahara (purification). I wonder about some women who wear the hijab on the head – a question for them: Do you make wudu (ablution) for the five prayers? Or are you satisfied with having a cover on the head?

* Hijab of the body, before hijab of the head. I wonder about the woman who covers her head and ignores her body. We found lately many manipulations and trickery to show the features of the body, though hijab is not limited to the head but also a cover for everything else, so how do you, my dear believing sister, expose the features of the body and be satisfied with the head cover?.

Lastly, some people may reject what has been said because I am a woman who does not wear the hijab on the head, but the column was written by a Muslimah who loves her religion, and hidaya comes from Allah Almighty, not from people.
